PHUKET: -- One woman was taken to hospital in the early hours of this morning (Sept 15) following a fire at a clothes shop on Patong beach road. Police have yet to determine the cause of the fire.

At 3:57am, Kathu police were called to investigate a fire that had broken out at a clothes shop on Taweewong Rd in Patong. Three shop units had been consumed by the blaze by the time police arrived at the scene.

Firemen from Patong Municipality were already at the scene dealing with the fire but were hampered by heavy rain and strong winds. It took them more than 15 minute get the blaze under control.

No deaths were reported, but one woman was taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.

The owner of the building, Wittaya Taweewongsap, told police that he leased the units to Thai clothing businesses. He was unsure how much the damage from the fire was estimated to be.
