Thai airline to buy Chinese jets

Featured Replies

To the dismay of Boeing and Airbus Thai Cityair are to buy 10 new passenger jets from China. The single aisle jets will be in direct competition to the 737 and the 320. The purchase price for the Chinese jets will probably be considerably lower than that of Boeing or Airbus and may well be sold at a loss in order to get a foothold in the lucrative Asian budget airline market.

Lets hope the Chinese quality control for these planes is better than a lot of the Chinese crap currently available in Thailand LOL.

Another reason might be because of this

Boeing has 4,269 unfilled orders for 737s, and Boeing Vice President of Marketing Randy Tinseth said Tuesday, during a speech before Seattle business leaders, that a third of those are going to China.

If they ever actually make any in the commercial world. The launch date has been pushed back several times. Given the announcements made by the company, first deliveries could be pushed back to 2020 and then only a handful for a couple of years.

....and because they will carry 99% Chinese PAX, who spent their money eating in Chinese restaurants in Thailand, and buy "Thai Hilltribe handicraft" souvernirs made in China.....

Airbus has a factory in China but cannot keep up with demand, order was probably secured on delivery time.

Last year Airbus extended production until 2025 and are considering a second factory.

"While the repeatedly delayed C919 won’t be as advanced aerodynamically or electronically as Boeing's or Airbus' planes"

So they're buying an inferior product, because it's available sooner, but is likely to be less econcomical to operate.
