Hi all, I have a friend from Pakistan, our school wants to help him with his visa and work permit. But they have told him he needs to go back to Pakistan to get his non-B visa. Is this true? Why not go somewhere closer and cheaper. All info is welcome. Thanks.

Your friend has received good advice.

There are a number of countries whose citizens are required to obtain visas in their own countries.

Check the list and you will note Pakistan is one such country.

Yes I have seen this list but I thought it was for tourist visas not non B

I think you will find it applies to all visas.

Why not telephone or email one or more of the nearby Thai Embassy's/Consulates and ask ?

it applies to all visas.

Many people from counties that are on that list have tried to get a non-b visa at a nearby location and were turned away.

The only option might be to apply for a conversion of his current entry to a non immigrant visa entry at immigration. But not all offices can accept the application. He would need at least 15 days reaming on his current entry.to apply.
