September 24, 201510 yr Hi, I'm staying in Thailand for about 1 year where I worked out it's cheaper to buy a motorbike compare to hire all the time. I will be travelling from north to south and want to take my bike with me. I will take a bus or plane to a new location where i would like my bike transferred. Who do I contact? I basically want to stay in a new location every month with my bike. What about extra costs like registration? Edited September 24, 201510 yr by fitnesspm
September 24, 201510 yr Author You can make both transportation and registration at the post office. How much from say Krabi to Samui or Samui to Phuket?
September 24, 201510 yr You can make both transportation and registration at the post office. Yes, easy, called "LogisPost". About everything up to 200 kg can be sent to any post office in Thailand for pickup. A couple of threads exist. A fairly recent one: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/784169-posting-scooter/

What about registration & insurance, how does it work in Thailand? Is the cost above, the cost for anywhere in Thailand? Edited September 24, 201510 yr by fitnesspm
September 24, 201510 yr Registration and mandatory insurance can be done yearly at every DLT office. Just green book required. New sticker placed visible on the bike. If bike is older than 5 years, technical inspection required. I don't know about additional private insurance. Edited September 24, 201510 yr by KhunBENQ
September 24, 201510 yr It's cheap and easy just to take it to the post office. Never had any problems.
September 24, 201510 yr Early next year my TGF and I are moving from Pattaya to Ubon. She says our two motocys can be sent easy by the Post Office in Pattaya. It's a Honda Wave 125 and a Honda MSX 125.
September 24, 201510 yr My gf put the pcx on train to Udon and drove back to Pattaya. You pay per kg. Check that. Edited September 24, 201510 yr by sead
September 24, 201510 yr Erm, if it's a proper motorbike, use it to travel on. (Sorry, but I've just come back from the weekly farang beer/talk b*llocks session).
September 24, 201510 yr It's cheap and easy just to take it to the post office. Never had any problems. Yes it is, but not any post office, ie I took mine to the post office in that soi in Pattaya, they didn't do it. They sent me to another one in Naklua, then no problem.

September 24, 201510 yr Have you thought of actually riding it? Buy some saddle bags and strap a rucksack on the rear and off you go. You will see more of Thailand and have a lot of fun as well.
September 24, 201510 yr I'll take a stab at costs for license and insurance. Both are very reasonable. I have a Honda PCX 125cc. License is in the neighborhood of 400-500 baht for a year. That includes the required liability insurance. Additional insurance covering theft, repair of my cycle and property of others, hospital expenses, bail, and such comes to around 5,000 to 6,000 baht for one year.

Krabi to Samui or Samui to Phuket is easily done even on a wave. Just leave plenty of time for stops etc and you will enjoy it more than any bus ride for sure.
September 25, 201510 yr I usually ride my cbr150 all over the place. I plan to ride northern Thailand and Laos in December. I'll ride Pattaya to BKK, and book an overnight sleeper train (bike in box car) to Chang Mai, arriving fresh to go at 0600. About 2200baht. For train, bus or PO, be sure to have green book with. I've traveled by train thrice thusly. The way to go!

There is also a packing cost of 400 baht on top of the quoted price, at least there was when my wife sent the son's bike down to Bangkok a couple of weeks ago.
September 28, 201510 yr I'd be riding it, seeing a lot more of Thailand, stopping/overnighting on a whim, enjoying your time. Forget flying between places and then waiting for your bike to arrive Having said that, if you must bus, local buses have a cargo area down back. I put a bike on a bus in Sangklaburi to K'buri a couple of years back, and I think it was B200, 5+ hour journey.
