Disabling Unused Services

Featured Replies

Hi Guy,

I have just installed Linux Mint on my PC and I would like to know what services should I stop. I am only using the workstation for general office work so nothing fancy.

Cheers

Why do you want to stop services?

For security, must be safer to stop FTP and WWW server services etc if I am not going to use them?

Cheers

I don't think these services are installed / started

Saying "using the workstation for General Office Work" doesn't convey much.

A Linux "workstation" will have different set of 'services' enabled than that of a Linux "server", since they're serving two different tasks.

Is the Linux Mint machine connected to a network, does it share files with other machines, print or communicate with any other equipment on the network, is it used to connect to the Internet?

Even so, a Mint machine should be pretty safe as it is. You are using passwords on all your root and user logins, right?
