Didn't have too much luck with the search so I thought I would create a new topic if that's acceptable.

I'm going to be heading back to my home country for an extended period of time (probably a few months).

Currently paying about 30,000 baht a month which, while I can accept the loss, I would prefer to minimise if I can.

I'm also thinking about moving places anyway so this seems like the time to do it.

Anyone have much experience with long-ish term storage of property (probably within the Bangkok area)?

I'd probably need a small truck to move my stuff, it's not excessive but there's several items that are fairly large and cannot be move trivially such as a table and a weight set, as well as a fairly large chair.

It could possibly fit in the back of a largish utility after disassembling everyone but I assumed a truck would be easier.

Can anyone give me a rough indication of the kinds of prices for storage and moving goods?

Also I'm thinking of possibly moving to somewhere like Chonburi or Koh Samui when I come back : does anyone have any rough ideas about transportation costs over that sort of distance (I know Koh Samui and Chonburi will be very different).

For the storage of your stuff there are a few storage facilities in BKK such as bangkokselfstorage.com. I'd suggest you give them a call and ask for a quote. Probably a cheaper option would be if you can find a room in an apartment building to rent. Around Chonburi they are around 2,500 to 3,500 per month for a no air-con room of around 20-something sq.m. I guess on the outskirts of Bangkok you're maybe looking at around 5,000. Keep in mind they are usually 3-4 storey buildings with no elevators.

For your transportation, keep your eyes open in the sois around your condo for signs stuck on lampposts that have a few Thai characters, then the number 4, then a couple more Thai characters and the number 6, followed by a telephone number. They are typically home-made, spray-painted signs and they are offering 4-wheel and 6-wheel trucks for hire. Get a Thai speaker to give them a call and enquire about their rates.

You could also try speaking to staff at your condo - they will almost certainly be able to get you a truck and most likely they live in one of those apartment rooms.

Good luck with your move.
