PHNOM PENH, Sept. 30 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has deported 3,226 illegal immigrants to their birth countries since April last year when the country formed the General Department of Immigration (GDI) , according to a GDI's report on Wednesday.

From April 2014 to September 2015, about 2,659 males and 567 females in 46 nationalities had been expelled from the country, the report said.

"Some 2,794 (or 87 percent) of the deportees are Vietnamese nationals," it said.

GDI's director-general Sok Phal said in July that it was estimated that at least 160,000 Vietnamese immigrants are living in Cambodia.

Under Cambodia's immigration law, any alien living in the country without valid documents such as passports, visas or work permits are subject to deportation.
