When writing the story for Citylife a Chiang Mai lawyer, who also wished to remain anonymous, told me, “It's illegal according to Thai law; there is an there is an act to protect the consumer that states that prices have to be fair,” adding, “Where there are fixed prices it must be fair and equal for all consumers.” The Consumer Protection Act (1979) of Thailand, section 4 states, ‘The consumer has the following rights of protection: the right to a fair contract.’

Try telling Somchai at the gate its illegal or even wrong and see where that gets you, ..........not let in !

Pay it or walk away, simple choice really.

The question is if you are a "customer" in the national park. As it isn't a commercial thing.

Paying for entry sounds pretty commercial to me. Free entry is not commercial.

No if you have a fee only to maintain it, no intention of making profit, not even covering your costs with it than it is not commercial.

Why not tell Somchai at the gate it's illegal ...... then walk in?
