Pattaya Ladyboys Fined 100 Baht

Women suspected of prostitution were taken to a local police station in Pattaya early this morning and fined as part of the latest effort to rehabilitate the city's image.

PATTAYA — Police arrested 50 suspected prostitutes including a number of transgender women along the beach in Pattaya early this morning in a campaign to clean up the city’s image.

The suspected prostitutes, between 18 to 45 years old, were taken to a district police station at 1:30am today and fined 100 baht for loitering in public and suspicion of engaging in prostitution.

Pattaya police Capt. Pallop Ringrod said ladyboys harass tourists and often are involved in robbery, especially snatching bags from foreign tourists.

How many 20B notes do these ladies get a day just to pacify them...

Remember years ago, a friend who was a solicitor pointed out that fining Prostitutes, Buskers, etc. was just counter productive as they had only one way to make the money to pay the fine.

Again and again.

Pick them from the beach, make a nice picture, charge 100 Baht and let them go.

Just demonstrating the unwillingness or incompetence to take real measures.

I dont' condem the sex business in Pattaya as such, but these loitering kathoeys are a pest.

The "fines" are a complete joke.

Guess they haven't been lifted since the 1950s? (when 100 Baht was "some money").

100 THB !!! WOW that will teach them. I'm sure that none of them will want to get caught again with such a large fine needing to be paid !

How futile!! Fines of 100 Baht only make the police, the laws, and the entire legal justice system look SILLY.

The headline Say's ladyboys but the artical states including transgender women, so really they rounded up sex workers on the beach, but singled out the ladyboys.

Maybe its more of a attention grabbing headline with the mention of ladyboys.

Maybe they are still there late at night because someone would not give them 100 baht "for long time"!!

Surprised they dont all protest receiving only a Baht 100 fine. Make it Baht 2,000 and maybe, just maybe it will have an effect as minimal as it obviously will be.

Agree, it's not about prevention, however, the ladyboys just paid 5,000 bt to the BiB and that makes the BiB smart enough to have a free dinner for the station.

something wrong with a countries legal system when a person can be fined by police for being suspected of doing something

What do ladyboys, transgenders, and ladies of the night walking Pattaya Beach have in common...they all harass, molest, and prey on tourists...

Take a photo of each...tell them if they are caught again they will do time in an undesirable prison in Southern Thailand and then released there to face the local hostile population...

This should reduce the numbers significantly...

The thai narrative is that all these people are only working to support family…so there is a fair bit of sympathy for them….cops just do this whenever they need a headline.

The LBs weren't singled out, the women were fined also.

What they are doing is operating as criminals in order to support families so they deserve no sympathy.
