Hello all,

I would like to ask please about some information on visa and fees.

I have a Thai girlfriend that live in Thailand (I back to my country already) and we want to open a shop together in Thailand,

and hopefully in the future to make a future together (marry , kids , etc..).

for the start of the opening a shop and stay the longest I can with her (I know that maybe I will have to go out of Thailand for some days to re-valid the visa),

what is the options? (best , cheap , etc...)

and if there are people who live in Thailand (of course foreigners) I would like to ask about advices please smile.png

Thanks a lot.

Your best option is probably a double or triple entry tourist visa.

There is no "work visa" and I doubt a small shop would support your obtaining a "B" visa or Work permit.

Be aware it is illegal to undertake work of any description without a work permit.

Other members may have different advice .

To get a business visa you will need to get a work permit or have applied for one.

To get a work permit you must be employed by a Thai entity that can show 2 million baht capital and four Thai employees per foreigner.

This can be deducted to one million and two Thai employees if the foreigner is married to a Thai.

What you can do is open the shop together with her, but you can never work as long as you do not meet the criteria for WP.

When you get married you can stay as long as you can show 400.000 in bank or getting 40.00 baht income (without WP from abroad)

It's not the sort of business that you can get a work permit for. You can open the business but you would not be allowed to work (officially).

How old are you?

if we get married, need only to have 400000 baht or 40000 income per month and I get visa every year without going out?

and what about baby ? (just to know haha )

If married you will not get a visa every year without going out!

What can be obtained is an "extension of stay based on marriage" (it is not a visa)

To obtain the extension you would first need (with your marriage documentation) to obtain a single entry "O" visa from a nearby Thai Embassy/Consulate. This visa will allow a 90 day stay. During the last 30 days of that stay you could apply for the extension which is renewable yearly if you can meet the financial. and other requirements.

oh I see , thanks a lot for the information smile.png

so you all say that to start with the triple entry visa , cycle it couple of times if need again and see if want to marry etc...?

and can cycle the triple entry visa as it finished ? or is there any outside limit from Thailand first?

(sorry about my many questions but it comes from real and good willing)

A triple entry tourist visa will provide almost 9 months in Thailand.

Once that visa has expired another tourist visa can be obtained from a Thai Embassy/Consulate in a nearby country but most will not issue triple entry visas.

Many of the Embassies/Consulates will limit the number of Tourist visas they will issue back to back.

Probably the best place to get a visa would be Vientiane in Laos.

At your age and without a job (employed) you don't have too many choices. Once you're married or have kids you'll be able to stay for 1 year which can be renewed each year. Marriage or child extensions of stay both require 400k or 40k pm income. If you don't have the income you can (currently) get multi entry non 'O' visas from Savannakhet, Laos without financial proof that allows 1 year multiple entries with 90 day stays on each entry.

For now, if you can get a triple entry tourist visa (TR) then start with that. A new multi entry visa (METV) is being launched in November too.

If you extend each 60 day stay by 30 days you can get nearly 9 months, then as suggested you can go to Laos for a new TR/METV visa. There is no limit to the number of TR's you can have but some embassies will limit the number they will issue to you. If that happens just go to a different embassy/consulate.

Your problem is more with being legal to work and unless you are employed by a Thai entity that is going to be difficult for you.

First of all thanks a lot for the replies,

I got a little bit confused with the extension of the marriage , if I can show income of 40000 per month that means I can work? Or still because its an extension of a tourist I still can't work?

By working I mean of course at the shop

You can only work if a job meets the requirements for a Work Permit (see post 4) .

It is unlikely that you will get a Work Permit to work in the sho+p.

Sorry again for confusing,

Even if the shop is mine also can't I sell in her? Because I don't really get salary from someone,

Or by saying work you mean any money in any way that I put in the bank per month?

Bigboy sound advice already given by the members above. Your coming here at young age not to visit but hopefully live and have family life with your gf. Perhaps change focus a little to her working the shop you start and you trying to obtain a job here separately. Problem is not a lot on offer here. Some young folk go down the teaching road but that's for native English speakers in the main. Perhaps come here for a year and get by on tourist visas etc. If you decide to marry you will need meet criteria mentioned above.

Which country are you from? If you can speak another language other than English there might be avenue in say real estate etc. There is a forum in Thaivisa 're work and employment.

  • You cannot work in the shop without a work permit (WP).
  • You cannot work without a WP even if you're unpaid.

  • An extension of stay for marriage allows you to apply for a WP.
  • You can only get a WP if employed by a Thai company.
  • You can only work once you have a WP.

There is also a list of prohibited occupations for foreigners and on that list you have.

"Shop attending"

No. As others have posted you will not receive a work permit for such an occupation.

You can own this shop or even every shop in the town but you will not be able to work in them unless you have a work permit

If I get the marriage extension for the tourist visa for 1 year, after 1 year I need to go out to get new visa and new extension or only to ask for new extension in the immigration?

And someone maybe knows about tourist visa run near krabi (that still works good and not deny)?

It is not possible to get a marriage extension from a tourist visa.

To get an extension of stay based on marriage an "O" visa is needed and to obtain that you will need a marriage certificate.

Once an extension has been obtained it can be renewed if the requirements can be met (400k Bht in the bank or 40k Bht/month income)

I have no information about "visa runs" from Krabi

  • You cannot get a 1 year extension based on marriage for a tourist visa (TR). You need a non immigrant 'O' visa
  • The maximum extension available for a TR based on marriage is 60 days.
  • You can get a new single entry non 'O' from embassies/consulates in neighbouring countries.
  • You could convert your TR in Bangkok to a non 'O' and then apply for a 1 year extension.
Posted

And the requirements for non 'O' are?

1. Marriage Certificate + Copy

2. Signed Copies of wife's ID and Housebook

If applying for "conversion" from a visa exempt or tourist visa to a no "O" entry in Bangkok evidence of meeting the requirements for an extension (400k in a Thai Bank or 40k2/month income proven by Embassy letter.)

ok and about the triple/double entry tourist visa,

can get new every time or how is it working please?

--------------------------------

Forget about working on a tourist visa.

Many of the tourist visas, as the one I have now, say quite clearly on them," Employment is prohibited".

You can not work on a tourist visa.

In fact you need a "work permit" to work legally.

Posted

For getting non 'O' before the marriage extension I need to have marriage certificate??

And what do you mean by housebook?

You cannot get an "O" visa based on marriage unless you are married and have a marriage certificate.

You do not qualify for an "O" visa on any other basis.

All Thais are registered in a housebook (Tabien Ban) . Ask your girl friend to explain
