webfact
Kamnan Por remanded to Bangkok's prison hospitalBANGKOK: -- Notorious local politician of the East known as "Kamnan Por" was remanded from his hospital bed in Chonburi Central Prison to Bangkok Remand Prison's hospital yesterday under tight security of prison wardens and police. The lightning transfer of Kamnan Por or Somchai Khunpluem, former mayor of Saen Suk Municipality in Chonburi province, from his patient bed in Chonburi Central Prison to the heightened security hospital inside Bangkok Remand Prison came after widespread criticism after a birthday anniversary party was held for him at the hospital on September 30 despite he is still a prisoner. The party saw several local and national politicians and crowds gathering inside the hospital’s compound to wish the former strongman happy birthday, despite it is a restricted area.Kamnan Por was sentenced five years and four months in prison by the Supreme Court after he was found guilty of corruption in the purchase of a piece of land at Khao Mai Kaeo in Bang Lamung district worth 93 million baht to construct a garbage dumping site.He also was sentenced by the Supreme Court in a murder conspiracy case to 25 years after he was found to hire gunmen to shoot a rival local politician to death. In total he was serving 30 years in prison. However, he was not put in prison ward after he cited his chronic sickness that could fatally harm him if kept in prison. He was then admitted at the prison’s hospital bed on the eighth floor instead for treatment, but under the 24-hours watch by prison wardens.Following criticism of the birthday party, the Corrections Department chief ordered that he be transferred to Bangkok’s prison hospital for treatment because of his chronic ailments would take lengthy time for treatment. The department also ordered the transfer of another prisoner, Pasakorn Homhuan, or known as So Tho Hiew from Chonburi Central Prison to Bangkok Remand Prison for detention. The former local politician was serving 25 years in prison for murder.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/kamnan-por-remanded-to-bangkoks-prison-hospital -- Thai PBS 2015-10-

What special treatment is he getting that other similarly ill inmates wouldn't get? The hospital in the Remand Prison is certainly not special. Other sick prisoners with no money don't get to stay in the hospital ward.... They're just left to die in an overcrowded room Hospital jails also have comfortable beds, aircon, private rooms and special food so most wealthy people end up there by coincidence isn't it ? springheeled jack
2 politicians doing time for murder it sounds to like these two were getting the best of treatments till they were exposed to the public I wonder how many more high profile prisoners are getting the same ? A large birthday party where various well known and influential people attended and delivered flowers to show their appreciation. Compare that to the Bangkok Hilton....
