I want to get my new work permit and the Immigration office instructed me to pass syphilis test. No doubt, I hate any blood test leaving alone if it is for detecting syphilis or else. Back to five years I had four medical tests because of getting WPs, but the last three were just a simple medical checking, without blood test. Now a labor office referring to a regulation issued in 2009 and instructs everyone to pass syphilis test. I think in a country, like Thailand where new regulations are coming out every odd hour this condition of medical test has also changed. Developed provinces do not insist onto blood test, they are happy with simple checking anyhow. ( all neighboring provinces here)

I wonder if anybody could clear if it is really living order or have been canceled, preferably citing the source.

It has been a requirement by labor department for a long time but only in the last 3-4 years being more rigidly enforced. I've had to have one for the last 3 or 4 renewals whereas for many years it was just the basic 'how do you feel' and a quick sign off by the doc.

As with many so many things in Thailand there is rarely consistency, and can vary not just by location but by who you see on the day.
