PATTANI: -- Two troopers were killed and five others injured in a roadside bomb explosion in Saiburi district of Pattani province this morning.

The defence troopers were on their car patrol to provide security for vehicles passing the road from Saiburi to Pattani.

The powerful home made bomb badly damaged the vehicle and injured several troopers on board.

Rescue teams were alerted and rushed to the scene but came under a second bomb attack.

The two explosions caused seven troopers injured. The injured were attached to the 4407 Ranger Unit.

They were later rushed to Saiburi district hospital where two were pronounced dead on arrival from serious wounds.

Security forces are closing the area for all vehicles as more bombs might be planted and also are combing the scene to hunt down the southern terrorists.
