PHUKET: Attempts by a Royal Thai Navy rescue team failed to revive an Australian tourist who experienced fatal difficulties while on a dive tour at the Similan Islands on Sunday (Oct 18).

Peter McShane, 69, experienced difficulties while in the water, said a report on the Navy public relations Facebook page.

“Tour staff brought him back on board the dive boat and called the Royal Thai Navy for assistance at 1:30 pm,” said the report.

“Mr McShane was bleeding from his nose and mouth,” the report added.

The Royal Thai Navy rescue team arrived and administered CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and oxygen to him, but to no avail.

69 years old and still diving .... there is hope for me yet. RIP to the deceased.

Bends?

I remember reading that as divers are getting older a major underlying cause of dive fatalities is heart attacks. Sometimes it is the indirect cause as heart problems cause panic and too rapid ascents.

Because of bad standards of reporting we don't know if he had just surfaced from a dive or if he had just jumped in the water to begin his dive.

Most likely he had just surfaced.

There is. Want to do a course?

Bleeding from nose and mouth points to pressure related injury during ascent.

At least he was still having a go at his age, RIP
