October 30, 201510 yr Sabotages black out several southern towns last nightNARATHIWAT: -- Security officials in four southern provinces today tightened maximum security at all business towns, and train services to these provinces following a coordinated arson and bomb attacks by Muslim terrorists in Yala and Narathiwat provinces last night and early this morning.Three police were reported injured in one bomb explosion this morning, and two others last night in Yala town.Explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) police this morning began combing several areas in Yala town looking for possible bomb traps that might be left over by the terrorists last night.Yala governor Doladej Patanarat said explosions and burning of car tyres happened at several places in and outside the town mostly at power posts last night, causing power blackout in many areas.They intended to create disturbances in the town, he said.The coordinated tyre burning and bomb explosions prompted security personnel to tighten maximum security in all business towns of Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat, and Songkhla.Last night the terrorists burned tyres on highways in Bannang Sata, Raman, Yaha, and Muang districts at about 7.30 pm.A utility pole and road signs were also burned in the attacks.Later several bombs went off at three locations in Muang Yala district. The bombs damaged two power poles.As the Bangkok Post reported, authorities said this morning at least eight explosions were reported in Yaha, Raman, Than Tho and Bannang Sata districts.Most of the attacks targeted electricity poles in an apparent attempt to cause blackouts, police said.The attacks caused power blackouts in the old market areas of Yala city, the entire area of Yaha district and in the Raman municipality.Security official advised residents to stay at home as security and explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) officers inspected areas under attack.Electricity blackouts were also reported in Sri Sakorn and Rusor districts of Narathiwat province last night. Security officials were out to inspect the scenes this morning.The State Railway of Thailand also tightened security on board its trains to the deep south with cooperation from security officials to provide security patrol on certain sections of the southern routes.
