October 30, 201510 yr Hi guys, Made the rookie error of buying a car that I can't register into my name as the original owner has moved back overseas and never transferred the car when he sold it before he left. I realise it wasn't a great idea to buy the car, but I'm now wondering if it's possible to insure it in my name? Recently paid registration etc at the local government offices and had no problems, but hadn't thought about insurance until recently. Is it possible?? Cheers!! Tom
October 30, 201510 yr yes no problem, just take the car with copy of blue book with you, Viriyah Company the best out there
October 31, 201510 yr Author yes no problem, just take the car with copy of blue book with you, Viriyah Company the best out there Brilliant!! Thanks PoolHustler!! Must admit I didn't think it would be that easy. Really surprised that they won't allow the transfer of the vehicle, but WILL allow me to insure a vehicle "owned" by someone else! Welcome to Thailand huh?!
October 31, 201510 yr Insurance tends to go with the vehicle here more than the individual. Just ensure you get a policy that covers and driver any you'll be fine. Named drivers are the exception not the norm here. You may find that when you bought the car - any remaining insurance came with it. Transfer of the Motor Vehicle:If the Insured transfers the Motor Vehicle to another person, it is deemed that the latter is thepolicy holder of this policy and the Company is liable per the insurance policy for the remaining ofthe policy period. However, in the event the policy is a Named Driver policy, the Insured must inform the Companyon the change the name of the driver in order to for the Company to adjust the premium rate perthe altered risk exposure. The quote above is from snippet of the T&C of my insurance. Edited October 31, 201510 yr by Pomthai
