Hawaii boxer who slipped into coma in Thailand now awake, alert

By Jim Mendoza

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Hawaii boxer who slipped into a coma in August while training in Thailand and whose family struggled to get him back to the islands is now awake and alert, his family told Hawaii News Now.

Boxer Kalae McShane’s coma was linked to an illness.

The McShanes made public pleas for help after struggling to cover the cost of his care and medical flight back to Hawaii, and then after local hospitals said they couldn’t admit him if they were to transport him back to the islands.

And McShane’s family say he has now been transferred to a rehabilitation facility in Denver.

Aloha Kalae McShane.

Great news. Here's for a full recovery.

Awoke due to a nightmare about the FALANG double standard hospital bill

To his horror the dream became a reality

Amazingly he has made a full speedy recovery

Honestly shocking performance by Thai hospital

Disgrace

So why wouldn't Hawaii hospitals admit him?

Honestly shocking performance by Thai hospital

Disgrace

Apparently no different to a hospital in the US. You'll get emergency care......then it's up to you and your insurer.

No insurance?...Tough.
