safety fence for my toddler

Featured Replies

My baby is walking now and I dont want her to fall off the concrete area as indicated the photo.

Can you recommend a suitable fence that we can construct? We are only renting and thus dont want to spend a lot of money.

I have chicken wire and suppose that I could buy some tomato stakes or something and do it myself. It will look a bit ugly but is easy.

Do you have any other ideas?

For me, I don't see the issue for what appears would be a very short fall to grass. A "chicken wire" fence sounds a lot more hazardous than a fall.

Yes forget the fence and just wrap her up in the chicken wire and stake her to the grass;............which is what you suggested in your original post

You could always try it the other way round and let the child play on the grass instead of the concrete.

No need to worry if they fall down then.

Actually I think that would be more dangerous. If the baby is just walking it is prone to falling down. It would be harder for him/her to walk in the grass and natural instinct would make him go in the direction of the house, a known safe place. The edges and corners of the concrete are very sharp and could cause a nasty injury.

Put some chairs on the grass with their backs up against the concrete edge to provide a visual barrier while child is playing. Assume someone would always be keeping a watch over any child playing there - could be snakes in the grass/banana trees.

That fall looks like it would be a soft learning experience vs my moronic neighbors who let there 3 yr old drown in a pool with no fence.........

Cut the grass?
