Phuket to pilot restructuring campaign in Patong Beach on Nov 6

PHUKET, 05 November 2015, (NNT) - The Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization has introduced the “Phuket Beach Model” restructuring campaign.

According to Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada, the project would allocate 10% of each beach in the province to vendor stalls, put up signs on beach regulations, display zoning maps, and set up an administrative body for each beach.

Governor Chamroen said the administrative bodies will be comprised of representatives from government units, the private sector, religious agencies and the general public.

Mueang, Katu and Thalang district offices have jointly drafted rules and regulations and produced zoning maps of their respective beaches. The district offices have decided to establish a community service for umbrella rentals for all beaches in their jurisdictions. Officials also revealed that these umbrellas must share uniform characteristics for the purpose of beach aesthetics.

The campaign will be piloted in Patong Beach on November 6, before expanding to other beaches.

we'll see ............. hopefully not just talk. whistling.gif

My idea? Put a snack bar/tourist information/umbrella rental about every 200 meters or so along the beach.

Umbrellas only set up when requested.....and NO vendors trolling the beach pestering tourists.

It hs been reported also that beachgoers can bring their own chairs and umbrellas and set up wherever they like outside of the 10% zone.

I wonder how the parasail hirers will like you on "their runways"?

If it's really true the tourists can set up their own comforts anywhere on the beach then that will be very good for tourism. Ths idea of tourists jousting with vendors only in the 10% zone was a very bad idea.

Do the words associated with "p,,,ss up" & "brewery" spring to anyone's mind here? An administrative body for every beach comprising of every man & his dog! Not to mention the payments to those who sit on the "body" & meeting expenses as I am sure they will not do it for free.

Thai people love forming Committees ......................and this is just to take care of a beach ?
