Did we accidentally make one of the best decisions in our life to become an expat in Asia?
Given the recent tariff's and a "Possible end to globalisation and trade" are we in a better position to shield ourselves from what could possibly become one of the most painful times for the west in modern history if we continue to buy our products from Asian suppliers shipped into a country that import tariffs should not be dramatically impacted buying from Asian countries, the Baht may lose value given the export situation to a large economy like the US will be affected but if money is already saved then just means your exchange rates will go up, private pensions may be a concern with the destruction of the Stock Market but I don't think expats will take the brunt of it, unfortunately that will be Americans and the Penguins. (I did copy and paste the below from a Sky News article but it highlights very well the situation American consumers are going to find themselves in very shortly) "To see what I mean, the best place to begin is by pondering the hidden life of the device you're reading this on. I'm assuming it's a smartphone, specifically the latest iPhone, but most of the following applies for other smartphones and, indeed, many laptops or desktop computers. The display was made in South Korea or Japan. The camera module was made by Sony in Japan (who have a particular expertise in this type of specialised silicon that few other companies have been able to match). The batteries (for the latest iPhone at least) are made in India, though these days, the vast majority of the world's cells are made in China. On it goes - the memory chips from South Korea, which has a near monopoly on solid state storage silicon. The logic chips - the ones that help the device "think"- made in Taiwan, albeit with intellectual property (IP) from all over the world, including America and even Britain. Some of the chips do indeed come from the US - in particular the modem, though the company behind them (Qualcomm) sometimes manufactures in Taiwan. But there are some from Europe too - most notably the spatial sensor chips that come from Bosch in Germany." -

But on the day the war started, the weapons were fully in place,” says the former officer in the Russian nuclear forces. “We were ready to launch the forces into the sea and air and, in theory, carry out a nuclear strike.” Some Western experts have suggested its weapons mostly date from the Soviet era, and might not even work. The former nuclear forces officer rejected that opinion as a “very simplified view from so-called experts”. “There might be some old-fashioned types of weapons in some areas, but the country has an enormous nuclear arsenal, a huge amount of warheads, including constant combat patrol on land, sea and air.” Russia’s nuclear weapons were fully operational and battle-ready, he maintained. “The work to maintain the nuclear weapons is carried out constantly, it never stops even for one minute.” Russia has around 4,380 operational nuclear warheads, according to the Federation of American Scientists, but only 1,700 are “deployed” or ready for use.
