Is it better to cross at Mae Sai or Chiang Khong to activate second entry of visa?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I was wondering if it's better to cross the border at Mae Sai or Chiang Khong to activate the second entry of a double entry visa?

With better I mean is it cheaper to go to Mae Sai than to Chiang Khong (from Chiang Mai)?

Is Mae Sai border open now?

Chiang Khong border is open, right?

Tara

It's slightly closer and cheaper to travel to Mae Sai from Chiang Mai. For most nationalities the Lao visa costs between $30 - $42 U.S (some have free visa entry) while you will probably only need a crisp U.S $10 note to enter Myanmar. Crossing into Laos will also burn a whole page in your passport in contrast to a stamp to enter Myanmar.

if you have visa go to mae sai , more faster and cheaper 500b for myanmar border pass ,

no visa go to chiang khong :)

You can get the 8 AM bus from CM to Maesai and then get the 3 PM back from Maesai to CM

Book tickets the day before though .

Mae Sai is much cheaper. I did this trip a few months ago. It is tiring day, but what can you do. At least u can buy cheap liquor and beer there, but check the bottles if u buy hoegaarden for black stuff on the bottom.

Hello,

You'd definitely go to Mae Sai because it's cheaper unless

you can get a visa-exempt entry into Laos.
