Teaching children with Dyslexia and Autism in Samui

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm an ESL teacher in Koh Samui. I would be very interested in knowing how to find proper training and get an accredited certification to work and help children with special needs. I'm mainly interested in dyslexia and autism.

Is there any specialized teacher on the island who can give me some advice?

thanks a lot!

Special Ed. is a major in four year B.Ed programs in the US. Probably 12-18 semester hours out of 128 required for the BA, would be specifically about Special Education. At one point, they were in such high demand in Arizona, that a government official warned school districts, that if they applicant has the endorsement on their certificate and can "fog a beer glass," they should immediately hire him/her. Also pays about a 5% premium. Teaching four or five students with Autism, or teaching 38, who likely have that many among them, plus the usual assortment of jail birds. Often times, the former is more manageable.

Once rented a large house with a simple gatehouse. The inside and an outside gatehouse walls had red paint splashed over them. I asked why so? They offhandedly replied that the maid's son was artistic. I later discovered they had meant 'autistic'. I left the red paint as a tribute to him.
