AKP Phnom Penh,

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) will issue a circular forbidding people living along the border from renting their farmland to the Vietnamese, Thai and Lao people, said Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen on his official Facebook page.

The move is aimed to avoid the issue of “Cambodian land, but Vietnamese or Thai or Lao rice fields,” he stressed, affirming that the RGC will examine the actual situation at the border areas in order to find measures to develop the areas as well as to build houses for Cambodian armed personnel deployed at the border.

At the same time, he added, the RGC will send letters to Prime Ministers of the three neighboring countries, asking them to stop their people from renting Cambodian borderland, and to cooperate in enhancing the living standard of people living along the border.

According to a press release of the Press and Quick Reaction Unit of the Council of Ministers issued after the weekly cabinet meeting held here this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen commissioned the Ministry of Interior to draft the directive and to cooperate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in preparing letters for the neighboring countries.

The Cambodian premier also advised the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction to work with relevant provincial authorities to well manage state land in order to distribute to poor people, civil servants and armed personnel as social concession land.
