BANGKOK: Security measure at the Suvarnabhumi and Don Meuang airports has been stepped up since Saturday in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris on Friday night which left at least 127 dead and over 200 others injured.

Mr Nitinai Sirisamatthakarn, managing director of Airports of Thailand Plc, said that foot patrol by security guards at the two airports was increased whereas monitoring of activities and movements of people by CCTV was tightened up around the clock.

At Don Meaung airport, he said that parking in front of passenger terminals was completely banned and VIP cards issued to facilitate unauthorized individuals to get into the check-in areas of the airport have also been stopped.

Baggages are subjected to random checks for bombs and other illegal objects, said the AOT managing director, adding that AOT had coordinated with police and the Royal Air Force to help strengthen security precaution.

Despite the horror incident in Paris, flights to Paris continue as normal, he said.

Wow, that is quite a security risk right there, and this, presumably, was official policy. But don't worry, this crackdown will not last long and those unauthorized persons will be able to access checkin areas of the airport again, real soon.

Which "unauthorised vips" currently have special cards to allow them into restricted areas such as check in etc??

Why are they visit and what purpose are they in restricted areas for ?

Would having a vip card not be equivalent to having authorisation?

This whole article contradicts itself, if the airport security have given them access cards.... Then I guess they are in fact "authorised"

Someone should be held accountable for this before there is another disaster

Someone else should be fired or preferably jailed for letting a retired policeman board a flight with a gun in his pocket too... :(

Since when is Thailand also bombing IS?

Letting the US fighter jets land or refuel on Thai soil is normally considered as " participation in the attack"

This is a typical reaction around the world after an event. As a frequent flyer I would prefer to see a country's best effort BEFORE an incident.

I'm at Don Mueang now. No change in security. I zipped right through carry on bag check with a backpack full of electronics and odd shaped batteries. Thai Government pretending to care again.

This is nonsense reporting. Check-in is NOT a security area as ALL have access to it to check-in (obvious, isn't it?), prior to going through security? I used to have access to the arrival (not check-in) area at the airport in Bali to greet VIPs. I'd guess that's common practise.
