Police beef up Khaosan Road patrol for tourist safety

BANGKOK, 16 November 2015 (NNT) – Tourist Police Division has stepped up patrol throughout Khaosan Road area in Bangkok to prevent and suppress crime against tourists.

Tourist Police Division Commander Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakphan said police had tightened security in the capital city and other provinces following the deadly attacks in France. Military officials and city inspectors have also joined the campaign.

Authorities focus their crime prevention and suppression on tourist spots, as tourists are likely to fall victim to conmen. The move was also aimed at showing the country’s readiness to be a good host for visitors whose number could skyrocket after the arrival of ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).

Those spotting any suspicious activity or crime against tourists are advised to call Tourist Police hotline 1154 round the clock.

security yea right. when there is a festival on KSR the police set up security check points at each end of the street but do nothing about all the small side sois via which anyone can access KSR unchecked. inept doesnt even begin to describe the local plods.

Beefing up, Cracking down, Tightened security, etc. Hope it lasts longer than a few weeks (or to this weekend) and is just not a sound bite for the media.

Really? You believe this sh!t? Police, Tourist Cops or otherwise concerned about tourist safety! There has to to be a way they can extort money out of this sad french situation otherwise they would do nothing. TRP = TIT = $

Now your thinking and you better close the border to battle age refugees from the wrong regions and quickly or the problem will be way worse than you think. I think...just sayin

"... tourists are likely to fall victim to conmen."

And, they just discovered this? Sharp. Really Sharp.

' .. following the deadly attacks in France.'

Pretty sure its called jumping on the (international) bandwagon!!! God forbid it should happen (yet again!!) but like Thai police, even army, ever gonna be equipped and on the alert to stop organised cells armed with automatic rifles and suicide-bomb vests, anyway!!! No one else, anywhere else, EVER is ready, so the soundbites here just a tad even more redundant than usual... hit-the-fan.gifwhistling.gifsorry.gif402.gif402.gif402.gifviolin.gif

I wonder if any of these patrols in Bkk and Pattaya will bother to go anywhere near the areas frequented by those from the Middle East and Africa ?

More police in Khoasan Road, equals zero reduction in crime against tourists.

Reduction in police in ThongLor, equals massive reduction in crime amongst tourists.

I know it's off topic (But relates to KSR police) but why don't they just change the road into a pedestrian only zone. The daily event of the police walking down the road, all the vendors moving their stands onto the sidewalk (because YES it is TECHNICALLY illegal to have stalls on Khaosan Road because it is still a designated vehicular route...on paper) and then movnig them back onto the road as the police pass is retarded.

Double threat ~ the bad guys and then the gaggle of RTP returning fire. Holy &^%$#)(*!

They have to buy their own weapons, uniforms, motorbikes.... With no standard issue weapon/caliber, I can't imagine the in-service weapons proficiency requirements are too expansive for the average patrolman, especially if they have to buy their own ammo.

Oh no!! How can get these?

All the pieces start to fall into place for a military government, intent on clamping down on individual freedom...

Foreigners are particularly annoying, what with their interference in the country's private concerns (such as illegal fishing, human trafficking, endangered species trafficking, drug smuggling, migrant labor slave trade and abuse, tourist murdering, plus every other corrupt practice imaginable).

The way forward is to police them farangs more intensely; reduce their visa numbers, deter our children from learning their language, block access to social media and gag the press. Then we can return happiness to us. I mean to the people.

Oh no!! How can get these?

Ah, good old KSU. And where are all those illustrious alumnae now?

The police will start to protect the tourists on Khao San road instead of protecting the criminals..? Yeah, right...

From past events, their credibility is questionable.

Do you get invited to parties much?

I think the RTP have a dubious reputation all on their own. Nothing to do with a Geordie or Newcastle.

And now we feels so much more safe......

Right the police there does nothing at all, just sit in their tent.

The taxi's and motocy's drive fast between the pedestrians, the vendors are agressive and block the walkways. Vendors like to go standing infront of pedestrians.

Without all those annoying sellers on te road it would be a much better place.
