NRSA’s Wanchai calls for anti-corruption awareness among Thais

BANGKOK, 17 November 2015 (NNT) - A member of the National Reform Steering Assembly has called for a more active awareness of anti-corruption efforts, among the Thai people.

NRSA member Wanchai Sornsiri said that the driving force of corruption has always been the belief that cheating will lead to wealth, power and influence.

Accordingly, Mr. Wanchai suggested that the fight against corruption must be a clear, decisive and aggressive process while cases related to graft must not have a statute of limitations as in the past, some of those who were convicted have absconded for 20 years before coming back to a normal life.

He stated that it must be made clear that any graft case can be resurrected and the jail term under the criminal code must be a minimum of 20 years while the punishment in civil cases must be the seizure of all assets, because imprisonment has not discouraged people enough.

Therefore, Mr. Wanchai said that there will have to be a campaign to instill anti-corruption awareness in the minds of the people, making all believe that involvement in corruption is repulsive, particularly when money is spent to help individuals unjustifiably rise to certain high government positions easily.

So are they saying this law is going to be applied retrospectively ?

Thais are already very aware of corruption, as it is part of their daily lives. Leaders also aware of corruption, and their place in the food chain.

As it is part of Thai culture and accepted from most people how they should show awareness???????????

Most people in this country are corrupt and don't mind as its part of daily life. Nothing can change if you not start to get this from the roots....!

So are they saying this law is going to be applied retrospectively ?

Most likely, but definitely "selectively".

So there will be a campaign to teach people that corruption is bad, but no mention of transparency at the top to identify suspicious wealth among government officials and army officers. In other words, smoke and mirrors but no substantive action.

Yes, as long they're aware of the "right" people. We all know what happens when questions are being asked about a certain group who have granted themselves an amnesty.

"cheating will lead to wealth, power and influence."

Nailed the Thai military in one.

Most Thai people do not have corruption. They have "Boon Khun" It is totally different. Farang will never understand the difference.
