ISIL claims its killed two hostages as it gives more detail on Russian plane bomb

PARIS: -- In its propaganda magazine ISIL shows a picture of what it says is a similar bomb to the one it claims to have smuggled on to a Russian plane that exploded over Egypt last month.

The group claims it got the device on board after operatives found a ‘security loophole’ at Sharm el-Sheikh airport.

In the same publication ISIL also claims to have executed two prisoners.

All 224 people died when the Russian plane fell out of the sky over Sinai. Most of them were tourists.

Russia was at first sceptical about it having been caused by a bomb but earlier this week it accepted it was terrorist act and Vladimir Putin vowed to hunt down those responsible.

Egypt is still maintaining there are no problems with its security procedures and that it has reached no conclusion about what brought the plane down.

ISIL also says it’s executed two prisoners, Ole Johan Grimsgard-Ofstad from Oslo, and Fan Jinghui, a business consultant for Beijing.

In a previous edition of the magazine, the group advertised the two hostages as being ‘for sale’, in effect a macabre ransom demand.

These are some really sick people. Unreal.

Daesh is now attacking pretty much everything the way that they sound like disorganized bunch of hooligans.

Actually very organised with intent clearly documented, read 'Management of Savagery'.

ISIL posts picture of alleged bomb which downed Russian airliner

The photo shows a can of a soft drink and what appears to be a detonator and switch on a blue background. It’s not possible to verify the authenticity of the photo posted online by the terrorist group. ISIL also claims in the magazine that it has executed a Chinese and a Norwegian hostage. It’s unknown

Is it possible to down a plane with a bomb so small, assuming it was in luggage (and thus greatly cushioned and smothered)?

Planting it strategically, OK, but randomly in cargo?

Just wondering. I have little knowledge on the subject.

And how was it activated?

Agree! They have an extremely well orchestrated strategy/plan and a clear end game in mind. Wish that the West had the same clarity and purpose.

As more innocents die, thanks to Bush senior's training of bin laden & friends, from which the Taliban was crated, then Bush juniors training of Iraqi jihadists, from which we now have ISIL/DAESH, the only solution seems very clear. The west needs to get its azz out of the middle east, let these crazies go back to warring with each other. To continue the foreign policies of intervention, which have failed spectacularly for decades, is sheer madness, which only benefits gun and bullet sales, and protects oil company investments, while innocents are being slaughtered. Wake up world!

Yes, especially if you get your hands on military-grade explosives like for instance C-4 or the older SEMTEX the amount in shown tin can would easily suffice to do the job, no matter where it's planted in a flying metaltube called airplane. My guess would be even good old Nobels dynamite (nitroglycerin-based) would get it done.

But assuming authenticity of the pic i'd take the shown detonator for a blasting cap designed for detonation of plastic explosives which ain't that easy one would think as you can drop that nasty shit around a bit, burn or microwave it and even shoot it without getting it to detonate, well, usually.

No cushioning or smothering effect in the limited space (or rather volume) of an aircraft!

Activation by timer, altimeter, radiosignal, mobile phone etc. ... whatever suits you best, always provided one knows what he's doing of course.
