New law for pregnant prisoners

BANGKOK: -- The National Legislative Assembly has approved draft legislation on pregnant inmates' confinement under the Criminal Code, NLA member Wanlop Tangkananurak said yesterday.

In his capacity as chairman to the ad-hoc committee considering this draft law, Wanlop said the law reflected a human rights need.

He said it was also an additional provision for the Corrections Department to provide the pregnant inmates or those breast feeding with proper health and nutrition advice.

The law is supposed to ensure the department provides sufficient meals at the right time for pregnant or breast feeding inmates as well as their infants.

There must be a proper childcare plan that allowed inmates to feed and spend time with their babies appropriately, Wanlop said.

The law was in line with the United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-custodial Measures for Women Offenders, he added.

...is this prisoners getting pregnant in prison.....???

Issuing condoms to the guards and privileged prisoners could help.

Better food and benefits, this should increase the number of pregnancies in the Thai prisons. I'm sure there will be no shortage of willing Thai prison guards volunteering their services to the ladies who want to get extra benefits.

Neuter the guards would be a good place to start.

Employ female guards for female prisons. coffee1.gif

Considering the usual Thai agency lack of planning they probably won't

restrict this offering to FEMALES !

perhaps a DNA test should be applied. If farang DNA is detected then the farang should be hunted down and deported.

@possum1931

Certainly helps confirm my view of you but makes your point in your op no clearer.

We are so far apart in our opinions that there is no point in having debates with each other.

If I knew what your original point was I might be able to debate. But I have absolutely no idea what your point was.

I'm talking about in general.

Treatment of Pregnant Women Prisoners... given the conditions in many of Thailand's this is just the tip of the Ice Burg, I am sure Thailand's prisons fall foul of many of the UN Human Rights guide lines.

A post violating forum rules has been removed from view and a member is now on a very long posting holiday. Which could become permanent.

Now that makes a whole lot of sense.....not!!!
