NCPO shuts down a satellite TV channel for defying Order 44

I wonder if this is the police chief that was unable to arrest a single red terrorist a couple of years ago or maybe the police chief that cheered the deaths of protestors, or maybe the police chief that thought that there was no ethical issue with hanging a photo of a convicted criminal in his office at police HQ while the polices job was to arrest convicted criminals. Or maybe.....and it goes on.

One thing can be assured if it was an ex police chief from the above era then we are assured he is not talking about reconciliation or moving the country forward. More likely hate speeches being broadcast and removing them is simply following Australia's suit. Take it off the air.

Please do your research before you go on your anti-redshirt rants. He was not appointed by either TS or YS. So unfortunately for you he is one of the yellow kind (your supposed friends) that now disagree with the green shirts. So the redshirts is sitting back eating popcorn while the yellows and greens discredit themselves among the Thai people and the international community. At least in future inform yourself about a subject before you comment, the ex-policemen didn't use hate speech he just said that the army must clean themselves up before they clean the police up. But this is now the basis for closing a radio station and throwing section 44 around to silence people that disagree. Your comment is typical of for your kind that use half truths and disinformation to taint people that disagree with you. Your hate speech have been going on for years but you are too blind to see that you are the one filled with hate. If you have any interest in a peaceful future for this country at least try to evaluate situations on merit not based on color codes. As I have said many times before none of the colour codes in this country is the future, the only future should be based on one country, one colour, one justice system for all, one man one vote, respect for human rights, equal education of quality, dignity to all and reconciliation and unity.

It seems a shame that a country that promised so much in 1996, who was the envy of many including China, gave so little in 2015 , how they all must be now hanker for the old days , where, Thai Democracy ruled , admittedly not much in the way of Media freedom and free speech but , Thai's didn't need a happiness clubs or re- education programmes or section 44 or increased conscription , how far down the ladder can Thailand travel before Prayut - O has a big problem on his hands and the world will look on and make their judgements.................................coffee1.gif

A combined force of soldiers and police raided the station? OMG! Did they expect a nest of terrorists armed to the teeth?

Or just another heavy handed sign to intimidate people out there to remember that: "You can think what you want, but you can't say it". (Deputy PM Prawit)

Not to worry, the great general has already explained the Thai human rights issues to Obama.

Obama has enough human rights issues of his own

Mmm, not bad, a whole 5 posts before we get an Obama rant. Still, makes a change from obsessing about Thaksin, I suppose.

Anyone who rants about the President of the United States, President Obama, on a Thai expat forum is pretty much a loser.

Well the deemers are at it again

I understand the concept of ignorance of the law is no excuse but how is it you can violate a law that has no definition or even explanation of what the law pertains to

So questioning the Park corruption is now deemed a threat to National security.....

Don't worry. EnglishJohn will be around shortly to explain that it's all Thaksin's fault, and that curbing freedom of speech really is part of the roadmap to democracy and returning happiness to the people!

And therein lies the problem. Everything I say is in the ceiling way above your head. All my posts have a considered point to them and what you just wrote is nonsense. It is impossible to have any intelligent debate with red-shirts. They will not accept anything they don't like. I don't care much for red-shirts, yellow-shirts or Juntas. I just say what I see.

My question on this topic is whether anyone has any clue why it was shut down or are you all just anti-junta ranting with zero thought ?.

Was the broadcast trying to undermine the Junta with false information it got from social media in a deliberate attempt to stir anti-Junta sentiment or did they provide a reasoned and accurate report of what we actually know beyond what may well be red-shirt lies. We all know by now that they come easily enough.

If it's the former then they did the right thing. If it's the latter then they overstepped the mark. I don't which it is so I won't comment. Do you ?.

"And therein lies the problem. Everything I say is in the ceiling way above your head. All my posts have a considered point to them and what you just wrote is nonsense. "

5555555! Good one, John!

"It is impossible to have any intelligent debate with red-shirts. "

And how many debates have you had with red shirts, John?

"I don't care much for red-shirts, yellow-shirts or Juntas. I just say what I see."

Not a yellow shirt, John? It sure looks like it the way you always come to the defense of the indefensible.

"Was the broadcast trying to undermine the Junta with false information it got from social media in a deliberate attempt to stir anti-Junta sentiment or did they provide a reasoned and accurate report of what we actually know beyond what may well be red-shirt lies. "

I guess you don' t see the problems in curtailing free speech according to vague rules like "one must not attempt to stir anti-junta sentiments", do you John? You do know that could e.g. mean not reporting anything (true or false) that puts the junta in a bad light, right?

But I guess you're OK with just about anything the junta does because of the bogeyman in Dubai and the uppity, unwashed peasants of the North/North-East. Right, John?

You two should get a room.

According to a report in the other paper, the owner of the station was a member of Suthep's PDRC, describes herself as pro-military, and claims she had previously filed a complaint against the transgender Thammasat University student Aum Neko for lese majeste.

So I guess on the positive side, EnglishJohn and djjamie were right all along - the military Government doesn't discriminate between red and yellow. At least, not wen it comes to crushing criticism of military corruption!

Thinking back over the past, it seems that the former times of peaceful protesters getting shot and bombed on streets, along with sometimes innocent bystanders, and no meaningful response from the authorities, simply was not sustainable. Equally so the wholesale looting of the country by those lining their pockets.

But now, what's the price that's being paid for having relative calm on the streets. Episodes like this one, and similar ones elsewhere, and all the related kinds of things (choose your words carefully) that go along with them -- the kinds of things that earn people surprise visits from the Army and NCPO.

Comparing the two worlds, then and now, it's hard to say anything good.

On that front I think little has changed.
