Bangkok governor set to be kicked out of party

BANGKOK: -- The Democrat Party wants to kick Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra out because he doesn't toe the line with party policies, according to a source.

But luckily for Bangkokians this won't affect his position as city governor, where he still has a year left in power, reported Bangkok Post.

Disgruntled party execs have had enough of Sukhumbhand constantly postponing meetings over Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, which he supervises.

He's dodged talks on his work record with several senior party figures, including leader and ex-PM Abhisit Vejjajiva, the source said.

BANGKOK — Top leaders in the Democrat Party denied rumors the party is pushing to kick out Bangkok Gov. Sukhumbhand Paribatra.

Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva and other party members quickly denied anonymously sourced rumors seeded in the media that party leadership voted by straw poll to expel the two-term provincial governor for breaking ranks with the party on matters of policy, though such a move would not have affected the year remaining on his term.

Abhisit yesterday denied news reports about the decision, saying the issue couldn’t have been discussed by the party’s board due to the military government’s ban on political gatherings.

A chorus of denials also came from other party leadership, including deputy party leaders Ongart Klampaiboon and Kalaya Sophonpanich, and party secretary Juti Krailerk.

Kalaya did acknowledge the party recently has held two discussion with top city hall officials, but said they involved work processes.

Gov. Sukhumbhand, from an asset has become a liability for the DP, because of his autocratic 'style' and his 'opaque' administration, leaving a majority of Bangkokians dissatisfied by the lack of positive, effective measures to solve their main problems and daily issues, the usual corruption and graft and cover-ups, the bitter cherry on top of an un-appetising cake.

Is it age, is it the function, is it the time, is it the man, ..., I don't know, but it seems this Prince, a former sympathetic popular leader, has become a medieval despot ruling over 'his' city as if it was his personal fief, to use and abuse...

'Le pouvoir corrompt, le pouvoir absolu corrompt absolument'

Editors really must start checking validity of reporters sources to stop this bullsh*t day in day out

Another one that has past their use-by date! There are plenty of others that meet this criteria too.

Unlike Bangkok’s inherent flooding problem, he must feel totally drained by this? Maybe he should write another book about the experience, an appropriate title would be "From alignment to enmity: My evolving relations with the Democratic Party"

In a classic piece of farce that is so appropriate in Thailand at the moment, regardless of what the Democratic Party execs may wish to do with him, they are unable to do anything because the NCPO has banned political meetings!

Seems like getting kicked out of any party here in Thailand would be a feather in one's cap.

He'll just come back with his own party: TRS (Thai Rak Sukhumbhand)

Does he care??.......he's the Lord of the Manor........untouchable...probably totally corrupt, but of course, an elite......a filthy rich elite partisan!

I don't live in Bangkok any more, so I don't have any idea if many people are dissatisfied with him. I thought he had been an unusually good, competent governor for an unusually long time and that he was still popular. Is he barred from running again? I would think he wouldn't need the DP if he did. I don't think they have much power among the working people. Mostly monarchists and hi-so. I grant you they were able to turn out a lot of people as PAD demonstrators, but I don't think they get the votes.

Probably hoping elections are further away than predicted. The longer the candy store stays open....

Perhaps they could get rid of him by accusing him of claiming connections to the royal family for his own advancement....

oh, no, wait a minute........

...shall we have a guess at where all these 'stories' originate from.......

...easy to do when one has a pile of other peoples money at one's disposal......
