The simple truth macs are not attacked in the same sense as windows or for that matter android. about once in a year you might hear about a Mac attack. Thats about it. Phishing and viruses apples oranges different.

OMG! Windows, and with phones, android are the most used o/s in the world! Simple maths really, if you are going to attack (virus or phishing) go for the big players NOT the also rans if you are looking for a better return on your efforts.

Jeez, simple reasoning seems to evade those wearing blinkers. coffee1.gif

To the OP, look at some of the common sense reasoning that has been offered to you to solve your perceived problem.

What do you mean by Phishing and viruses apples oranges different ?

Phishing is independent of OS, it can happen on ALL Operating Systems (Linux, Windows, Apple, Android, Symbian etc etc) out there, as long as you can open a website you could become a victim to Phishing.

They arent the same. You DO NOT always get a virus if you get "phishced"

fishing is the act of "tricking"people not a virus.

You don't have to shout to explain something, just take a look at RichCor. Explained it but without shouting

And if you look at my post #3 then you will see I clearly understand what PHISHING is.

Agree I wasnt shouting just making a point. 555

As far as macs go, im not a mac phanatic. Only thing apple I own is a ipad mini.

don't open website from your email. don't click any link even if you think it s OK because eBay. Com by example could be iwilltakeyourmoney. com

Ok advice but, one better is this: whenever you get a questionable email, in the particular email details you can see the entire address the email was sent from. Its very easy to spot when one comes from a phifshing place. Another safe bet is if its in your junk folder, its junk. Any email asking you to reset a password or any other personal details through the email is a fishing attack.

I open websites through my email all,the time but first, I make sure it is legit from a known sender.

Cant be too careful anymore.

forging a "from address" is not rocket science, it is very easily done..

Do not follow links from any email - you can never know if it is 'legit'

Not necessarily that's why I wrote my post. Hotmail will give you everything, you cannot hide or spoof an address.

Hotmail or any other email client will only show you what is in the email header that it receives. It is very easy to forge a sender's address, and also possible to forge the IP address from which it is sent.

Further, Email systems may be compromised, email accounts may be compromised,

" I make sure it is legit from a known sender." Impossible!

You can never be sure an email is 'legit', no matter what hotmail tells you.

Simple rule : never click links in emails!

Its obvious you dont know Hotmail and all its features. If you did, you wouldnt keep saying the same thing.

The thing with Hotmail is it shows you both the spoofed and real address. Check it out sometimes and do a little learning. You'd be amazed at what you can learn by having an open mind.
