Cambodia to organize events marking 16-day campaign against gender-based violence

The campaign will end on December 10, International Human Rights Day.
Update: 12:00PM Fiji joined other countries across the world in solidarity marches marking the first day of the global campaign 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.

“Violence against women is one of the most pervasive human rights violations in Cambodia”, the statement said.
Councillor Derek Burrows, cabinet Member for community safety said the council was taking extra steps this year to raise awareness within “harder to reach” communities with low domestic violence low rates of reporting domestic violence to the police.

A joint select committee of Parliament has been conducting a review of four pieces of legislation to provide greater protection and redress for citizens, particularly vulnerable women and girls.

The Liberian leader pledged her government’s commitment to ensuring that the plights of the people are considered through the institution of laws and policies that will protect the rights of women and girls in the country.

Trocaire, an Irish overseas development agency, launched a year-long media advocacy campaign “Pur-Azm” on gender-based violence in Pakistan yesterday.

Through concerted action by everyone, she says, “we can tackle the unequal power relations and structures between men and women and highlight the necessary attitudinal, practice and institutional changes”.
