My Thai wife was granted a 2 year residence permit in November 2005.

Is there a limit to the number of days she can spend out of the UK. She

spent 20 days in Thailand last month due to family problems and wants

to return again next month. Will this effect her application for a permanent

visa in November 2007. Thank you in advance for any help.

Regards Gibbo.

Gibbo,

No, there is no hard and fast rule about how long your wife can spend outside of the UK within the currency of her 2 years. However, providing that her circumstances haven't changed, she will be able to re-enter the UK, without another visa, right up until the date of expiry of the 2-year visa.

Additionally, I don't think that her having been absent from the UK for two relatively short periods will have a bearing upon her indefinite leave application. If it were to become an issue, it should be sufficient to explain the circumstances in which your wife had to go to Thailand; i.e. for family reasons.
