BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Police will deploy 1,000 more police to ensure security and safety for participants in the upcoming "Bike for Dad" cycling event scheduled on December 11.

The deployment of more police to the existing 30,000 police personnel already assigned to the true event was ordered by the commissioner of the Royal Thai Police Pol Gen Chakthip Chaichinda after yesterday’s meeting to assess security and safety of the rehearsal of the 29-kilometre biking distance Sunday to see all the weak points in order to make improvements.

The meeting was attended by concerned police, military, and medical teams responsible in ensuring safety along the Bike for Dad route in Bangkok.

At the meeting Pol Gen Chakthip ensured that all agencies are ready for the event and would be implementing the highest level of safety measures.

He agreed to deploy an extra 1,000 border police officers to assist the 30,000 police officers already assigned to their duties on the cycling event to beef up security.

Deputy Prime Minister ACM Prajin Juntong, meanwhile, also noted that he had also participated in the cycling rehearsal on Sunday and was worried about the slope section of the Rama 8 bridge.

However all problems encountered during the rehearsal last Sunday would be sorted out at the cabinet meeting today.

More than 30,000 police for a bike ride? How about a "Solve a crime for Dad" day for all these under employed officers?

One police personnel for every two riders, on a twenty-nine kilometer ride... dangerous place Bangkok...

There's a slope on the bridge.

OOOPS! I don't think you are allowed to say thatcheesy.gif

There's a slope on the bridge.

Jeremy... have you forgotten what happened the last time... facepalm.gif or maybe not biggrin.png

So if something happens you'll have 31,000 police running in the opposite direction then coming back 30 minutes after its over. Beware of stampedes if you go

How are they going to sort out the slope of the bridge?

Best solution boycott the events stay home and be safe. No need to satisfy a bunch of greedy politicians campaign at the cost of your own safety...

more like 3000 police and not 30.000.
