PM says General Udomdej should be allowed to use own judgement to decide his fate in government

BANGKOK -- Deputy Defence Minister Udomdej Seetabutr should be allowed to use his discretion to decide whether to resign or to stay on, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha said on Wednesday.

He, however, said he didn’t understand why there was pressure now for the embattle deputy defence minister to call it quits while the investigation into the Rajabhakti Park scandal is still going on.

The prime minister maintained that the government and the National Council for Peace and Order would not be affected if General Udomdej chose to resign as the NCPO is made up of representatives from the three armed forces and the police.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, meanwhile, denied there was a conflict between General Udomdej and Army Commander-in-Chief General Theerachai Nakvanich.

He said the two men used to work together for a long time and were classmates but he admitted that both might have different opinions regarding their works.

Such strong leadership skills from the prime minster.

And there you have it the bloke who took power to stamp out corruption doing not a lot to be proactive at stamping out corruption especially when it is one of his mates, oh the irony or maybe corruption is only colored red.....

I agree, they should also be allowed to investigate themselves in case of corruption suspicions, make up their own laws, arrest anyone they like without charges and take over a government because they feel pleased to.

Hey wait, they did all that for the past 18 months.

... should be allowed to use own judgement to decide his fate in government

what a joke...

gotta wonder, though, if they are going to sacrifice this general for the benefit of all the other generals... whistling.gif

In my country, this would clearly mean he has to leave 'pronto' by himself or he will be kicked out, but this being Thailand, I'm not sure...

Exactly, he appointed the ministers and can easily remove them providing he's not too engaged in protecting them.

Didn't he threaten to remove officials who didn't do a good enough job so what about seriously embarrassing situations like this or is the hard man talk and stance only in very selected cases ?

There was a clue in how this might be as soon as he took control of the country as he immediately granted amnesty to all involved in the coup and made in clear the wealth of the junta members and how it was aquired was most definitely off limits.

He's the poster boy for the application of double standards and it will get worse the more embattled and protective he becomes.

Agree with you. PM asks him to go the "honorable way". He should considered himself lucky not to be Japanese, there it would be translated as "sepukku"

Here in Thailand it mean transfer to an inactive post. He can't resign as he will lose big military pension and benefits. Maybe the generals will pool together a handsome resignation fund so he can go rich and happy.

I could be wrong but I'm sure the lady in the bottom right insert window is signing the internationally recognised sign language for

"facepalm"

.................just a thought

'He, however, said he didn’t understand why there was pressure now for the embattle deputy defence minister to call it quits while the investigation into the Rajabhakti Park scandal is still going on.' Could it have something to do with the all too evident odour of BS wafting around, and the concept, so alien to Thais, of taking responsibility?

Notice how the Junta lovers are so quiet when it comes to this topic.

Come to their defence on this one.

Oh the hypocracy!

The junta-head said "the government and NCPO would not be affected if Udomdej chose to resign as the NCPO is made up of representatives from the three armed forces and the police".

One has to wonder if he kept a straight face when he said this.

According to certain TV- members, this is strong leadership, stamping out corruption!

What this is saying is " Hey look brother, when it's your time for a coup and I and my family are enjoying the money that somehow (fell) in my Swiss bank account during my time at the helm, just remember this guesture.

" I wonder who the next army chief will be?" said the amulet trader to the thief.
