CDC: Increased number of election commissioners enables higher productivity

BANGKOK, 5 December 2015 (NNT) – The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) believes an increased number of election commissioners would enable higher productivity.

Apichart Sukukkanon, vice chairman of the CDC, spoke about the drafting team’s idea to increase the number of election commissioners from 5 to 9, saying the idea was to change the work format of the Election Commission (EC) so as to ensure higher efficiency and productivity.

He said that qualifications of additional members of the electoral body will be the same as the incumbent ones while the selection committee will mostly consist of judges.

Mr Apichart went on to say that the CDC as well as the EC is obligated to prevent possible election fraud, the matter of which the public and the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) place great emphasis on. In order to achieve a clean and fair election, he said the public has to cooperate more.

I don't understand. The EC did a miserable job the last election. I would have thought

scrapping the EC would be the first step in election reform. coffee1.gif

More election officials?..

What's the point of that, when the democratically elected government is tossed out anyway. ( this comment supports no political movement, only the process)

Or perhaps the new boys were hand picked because they cant count

"...increased number of election commissioners would enable higher productivity..."

More like gridlock and lower productivity. An increase in any committee is logarithmically proportional to a decrease in productivity.

One could go for five EC members with four temporarily added at the time elections need to be setup.

I assume by now there exists a script with details on how to organise an election? All activities, timeline, contacts, etc., etc. All nicely put into a database which can easily be queried?

If I can quote the great Professor Moriarty (from the esteemed inimitable Goon Show), "You silly foolish boy you"!
