Cabinet Approves Orange Line Project in Bangkok and Tollway Merger

BANGKOK: -- The cabinet approved the Orange Line railway project in Bangkok and a major transportation merger on Tuesday.

The 95.1 billion baht Orange Line electric railway is slated for completion in August 2022. MRTA (Mass Rapid Transit Authority) will manage the project. Approximately 9.62 billion baht is allocated for land expropriation, while 85.48 billion baht is allocated for civil engineering work. Bidding will be opened in May.

Orange Line electric railway will span 21.2 km, running from the Huai Khwang district to the Min Buri district. The railway also includes an underground section that will span 12km and a 9km elevated section. The project includes 17 stations along the route.

The Finance Ministry will manage funding, which will include loans and the national budget.
