Hopes rise of climate deal as EU forms new alliance

PARIS: -- The EU has formed an alliance with 79 African, Caribbean and Pacific countries – in a bid to seal a deal at the COP21 climate conference in Paris.

It is said to have found common ground on some of the most divisive issues and wants the final agreement to be reviewed every five years.

“The Paris agreement must be a legally binding, inclusive, fair, ambitious and robust agreement,” said Miguel Arias Canete, EU Climate Commissioner.

“That it must have a long term goal to be the guidance of the travel we are going to have to pass from the actual situation to a limit of two degrees centigrade.”

Alliance negotiations are continuing over how that global warming target could be reduced further to one and a half degrees Celsius.

The EU will stump up 475 million euros of funding to support climate action in partner countries.

Ok Earth, now you better behave. No more than 2 degrees increase or we'll...

Have another conference

Green/Left fanatics' ransom note to the taxpayers: “Give us all your money or the planet gets it.

Typical fatcats only a tax can fix this problem and make the consumer pay it, why not ban private jets , these guys contribution to all this is a massive carbon footprint and a great deal of hot air.

I love this. No politician wants to come back from this meeting saying they have done nothing about climate change. Now they have something to hold up and say they are taking action. They also don't want to come back to an irate business community who after all put them I office by doing too much. Business will understand that committee based activities never produce results. This is a wonderful political solution. Now they can have endless meetings with other like minded elected officials in exotic locations where they can talk and do nothing at the voters expense. If nothing happens they can blame the other countries. I am in awe, it's brilliant!

Over the next two days, we can expect:

1) The Oh-No moment. It looks like some countries aren't going to sign up to the deal. Warnings that a deal will be difficult

2) Late Night Rescue. Bureaucrats will sit around until 2am haggling over a pointless word here, an irrelevant word there.

3) Bright Morning. Politicians will announce a success due to the noble commitment of the negotiators and their determination to "save the planet".

Result: Nothing substantial will be achieved (we knew that before the thing started); politicians announce a grand success, underlining the solidarity of the "international community"; bureaucrats are praised for their dedication.

And of course, they need to do the same thing all over again next year, another Christmas pantomime from Big Climate.
