Google reveals top 2015 search trends in Thailand
The Nation

BANGKOK -- The Nepal earthquake was one of the most searched international news reports in Thailand this year, according to Google’s “Yearin Search 2015”.

The search engine's annual report looks at the year through the collective eyes of the world on the Net, offering a unique perspective on the year's major events and hottest trends based on searches.

It found that Thais turned to the Net to keep up with the latest news and developments at home and overseas by searching for events such as the Nepal earthquake, the Bangkok bombing and Paris attacks.

However the report also reflected the lighter side of things, with local celebrities dominating the Top Trending Searches list. People kept tabs on the latest celebrity gossip, including superstar Araya "Chompoo" Hargate's wedding, while their love for food was also evident in their search, ranging from duck jelly to fried pork and Thai-style spicy salad.

Other lighter topics that took top spots included "Chuag Vised" (Magic Rope), a music video by much-loved Labanoon; "Ruk Na Ped Ngo" (UglyDuckling), a video series about Thai teens the modern world; and "Pean Hean Rongrean Loan" (ThirTEEN Terrors), featuring the spooky misadventures of Thai high-school students.

"The 'Year in Search' is a snapshot of our national curiosity. This year was characterised by many Thais going online to search for the latest updates around local and global news stories, like the Nepal earthquake," Pete Nuchanatanon, head of marketing for Google Thailand, said. "On a lighter note, our searches also revealed a renaissance for Thai entertainment. People kept up with their favourite acts and Thai shows online."
