Noise in North Pattaya.

Featured Replies

Laying in my bed late last night (Friday 18th) when there was a serious of what I would describe as mini explosions and twice again this morning. We are staying on soi 5 beach road and the noise last night felt like it was further up the soi, scared me shitless and woke the kids up, the wife said it had something to do with a hotel celebrating but I find that hard to believe, can anybody shed any light on what it could be? Many thanks.

capacitor explosion maybe?

Either fireworks or electrical transformer blew...both fairly common in Pattaya...we locals just carry on.

A series of explosions is probably fireworks. One single bang is more likely to be a transformer.

What time was it?

After some years in the village you hardly notice it biggrin.png

Your wife is probably right.

Thais start bangers/ quarter sticks (not sure about the correct English word) for different kind of festivals (merrit making, weddings, funerals etc.pp.).

Those bangers are not child play but rattle your windows.

A must: when the fire is ignited at the cremation site at least one banger will be fired.

But thats in the afternoon.

During the last two months there were about 20 to 30 bangers.

Most of them at a private merrit making festival (tambun) during three days or so.

First bangs will be around dawn, nice wakeup tongue.png

Sometimes Hotels, when fully booked, let off fireworks to celebrate/sicken their rivals.

Yes, I've heard this as well...sorta to give thanks or recognition to the hotel spirits for bringing them a full house biggrin.png
