sipi Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 As a casual member I basically stick to the casual forums, General and Pub. Once or twice I have adventured off the beaten track. Once I visited a local forum and was chased down by (what seemed to be) a bunch of flea-ridden Soi-dogs for in-passing on their territory. Never again. I have visited the photography forum a number of times, and have really enjoyed just looking. Brilliant. But I am not a photographer and couldn't contribute anything. Having recently bought a new digital SLR, hopefully that will change. On a few more occasions I have offered advice on the DIY forum and it has been well received, or at least we have set up a healthy debate. Which sub-forums do you recommend, and why?
weegee Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 Any sub-forum that has a laugh AND is informative, without infighting among members.... Merry Xmas Sipi.....
djayz Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I enjoy reading topics on the farming forum, particularly sub-forums about aquaponics, organic gardening, keeping cray fish, chickens, etc., etc. Why? I come from a farming background and just love being outdoors in my veggie garden. On some of the sub-forums I've picked up good ideas about composting, different vegetables that grow well/don't grow well here, etc. It's generally very informative, if you're into that kind of thing, and very, very little bickering. There are also some magnificant photos potraying rural Thailand and everyday life out in the sticks in one of the sub-forums in the farming section. You should take a look at that one, you might find it interesting. Good luck
StreetCowboy Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I hang out down the pub, but sometimes I go on the cycling forum to get there. I go to the sports ground for a game of rugby from time to time SC Edit: You're right about some of the parochial sub-forums, where you can easily stray into a long-running feud that's been going on for generations, but the worst behaviour, the least open-minded debate, has to be in the News forum
MaeJoMTB Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 I just click 'View New Content' And read any thread that grabs my attention. Don't really care in what section it was posted.
NeverSure Posted December 22, 2015 Posted December 22, 2015 The most helpful forum here is the visa forum. UbonJoe and his "helpers" are simply the best. Cheers.
Crazy chef 1 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 Usually in the following order: Pub General New Phuket news Home forum( Hua Hin/ Cha Am)
isanbirder Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 I generally avoid those forums which are full of facile generalisations about Thais. I use the Newsletter to get some local news, and follow up those issues which look interesting.... not usually through forum threads, which are often full of bigots, facile comments and wrong information. What do I read/look at? General sometimes has interesting threads. Chiangmai and Isaan, I used to live in CM, and now live in Isaan' Gay (I'm gay) Pets (I have dogs) Outside the box (though sometimes troubled with islamophobes, and nutheads, it does deal with some interesting topics not covered by other threads) If insulted, I report the post (I treasure the moment, though, when someone called me a septic homophobe!). If an argument becomes repetitive, I just drop out, probably placing the poster on my Ignore list. What I'm really saying is that you can tailor TV to your own requirements, and simply disregard the morons which seem to infest parts of it. After all, they have as much right to space as I have.
Will27 Posted December 23, 2015 Posted December 23, 2015 One of my favourites is the TV & Movie subforum. Hardly a word spoken in anger and some great recommendations. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/612173-what-movies-or-tv-shows-are-you-watching-now/page-218
