Sihanoukville: Otres Market Opens Again

OTRES VILLAGE – The annual reopening of Sihanoukville’s popular Otres Market, situated on the edge of a lake in the ever-growing community of expats and Khmers in Otres Village, is traditionally linked to the onset of the coast’s high season. This year was no exception, with hundreds of backpackers and travellers, alongside expats from the city, coming together at the unique venue for live music, some shopping, dining and, of course, a predictable amount of drinking and dancing.

The market, which has been going strong every Saturday evening for more than four years now, closing during rainy season, hosts a number of local businesses, mostly from nearby Otres Beach. Stalls selling crafts, clothing and jewelry are popular, but it would be a mistake to come here expecting a vibrant shopping scene.
