December 30, 201510 yr Has anyone been having trouble watching the BBC in the last few days? Despite changing servers I am unable to watch the BBC as the players keeps saying I am not in the UK, first time this has happened in two years of using the service. No problem with ITV.
December 30, 201510 yr Author It would seem that the BBC are blocking StrongVPN IP addresses: http://www.survivefrance.com/forum/topics/strongvpn-blocked?id=3339392%3ATopic%3A736256&page=1#comments
December 30, 201510 yr Could be that BBC are collecting the IP addresses of commercial VPC servers and blocking them. I have heard of other content providers doing that. I am using Witopia and no problem connecting to BBC through their London or Manchester servers. They also have one for Nottingham, but I have not tried that one.
December 30, 201510 yr The BBC said they were going to start blocking VPNs back in October. There was extensive media coverage at the time. It's thought this is being done because the BBC plans to start charging for video streaming in the USA. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/10/19/bbc_cuts_off_vpn_to_iplayer/
December 30, 201510 yr Kodi's BBCiPlayer by Mikey still working today without any VPN or geo-unblocking extra addons at all. It was down for a few days earlier this week tho!
December 30, 201510 yr I posted a warning about this in October. Of the three VPN's I tried, HideMyAss, VPN Express, and IPVanish, IPVanish was the only one that worked consistently for me. As you can see, other posters have success using other VPNS, or different methods. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/864372-dont-update-your-bbc-iplayer/ Edited December 30, 201510 yr by phetphet
December 30, 201510 yr Hide my Ass works, had a dynamic one few weeks ago but now use Loc 2 in most instances to get BBC i player
December 31, 201510 yr FilmOn - works perfectly + has ITV etc https://www.filmon.com/tv/live But unlike the BBC and ITV web sites, FilmOn doesn't offer play on demand? the 7 hour time difference makes it less useful for many.
December 31, 201510 yr Just connected to both the uk version of the web page and played a programme on I player using Strong VPN - no problem. Try again after you've cleared website data.
January 4, 201610 yr Author I contacted StrongVPN they said that they were aware of the problem and they put me on another server and things are working once again now.
January 5, 201610 yr Very prompt response from StrongVPN - Change to one of their vpn-lo or vpn-td4 servers. Fixed "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
January 5, 201610 yr Any reports of ITV Live/Iplayer having same problems....>?? Not as yet (never stopped for me) but they didn't announce that they would be blocking VPN access. I expect a game of cat-and-mouse now with the VPN providers vs the BBC. "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
