i am american, flying into LOS next week --from India-- WITHOUT a visa.

1) after one 30-day entry stamp, is it still possible to do a border run (to mae sae) and come right back with another 30 days?

2) is there any point in requesting more than 30 days when i arrive at the airport?

Yes, provided that you don't stay more than 90 days in a 180 day period on 30-day stamps.

2) is there any point in requesting more than 30 days when i arrive at the airport?

No. Thirty days is the maximum stay that immigrations will give you without a visa.
