Govt pleased with road safety measures over holiday period

BANGKOK, 4 January 2015 (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha expressed satisfaction with road safety measures over the holidays, despite the high number of road fatalities.

The Prime Minister’s Office expressed gratitude to everyone who worked hard to minimize road accidents. Gen Prayut explained that there were also more vehicles on the roads during the New Year holidays.

The Prime Minister said that government’s efforts stopped people from driving under the influence, as well as prevented possible criminal activity and violence.

Many drivers were found to have hidden weapons and illegal drugs during the inspection. The government is considering using the same approach to safety and security during other major holidays.

Authorities are still working hard, as holidaymakers are returning to Bangkok. Motorists are urged to strictly comply with traffic regulations or face legal penalties.

WOW! That just goes to show how "high" the standards these people have set for themselves.

Everyone worked hard to minimise road accidents yet by Day 5 the various categories of figures were worse than for the 7 days last year !

Self-congratulation is becoming another hallmark of the government. I await the reasons offered, if any, to explain away the increase in negative figures.

Self praise is no recommendation!

Govt pleased with road safety measures over holiday period

Really? Wow, Amazing Thailand indeed. According to the Bangkok Post this morning, the number of accidents AND fatalities is UP over last year.

The government must have truely low standards.

What a load of BS.

"It's road safety Jim, but not as we know it"

Yes, self promotion and delusion, however what would have been the outcome without these "super" measures what were introduced.

Really what is lacking is the participation of the people, they are allowed to do what ever they want all year and accept it as normal, allowable and mai bpen rai.

The solution lies in very tough enforcement 24/7/365, impounding cars, jail, meaningful fines, stamping our the tea-money mentality, excusing Hi-So's and the "don't you know who I am".

We can live in hope, I guess nothing is likely to change in the short to long term.

Ya think?

I am in total awe every time this guy opens his mouth.

it mainly shows that the Thai aren't Buddhists sad.png

I remember Yingluck's did the same not to long ago.

and my wife say :

" it's not necessary to wear the helmet after 6 pm "

I asked her why ?

"because there aren't cops along the roads, they came back home " post-4641-1156693976.gif

When thai people will undestand that the helmet is for our security and not because there are cops somewhere ....

wai2.gif wai2.gif Thank you Masterwai2.gif wai2.gif

We would never had figured that out ourselves.....................

We, here on TV forum, cannot undestand because we aren't thai people..

Our good Kim Jong Un " the second " will explain us it's not the fault of the thai drivers;

there are too many burma or khmer or farang drivers and they don't know how to drive in Thailand ...

so they cause accidents .

More road deaths, more accidents, more injuries. "expressed gratitude to everyone who worked hard to minimize road accidents" - make sense to me. Just think how many more deaths there would be if they actually counted those who died enroute to the hospital or at the hospital instead of just dead on the road.

Of course they do. whereas most countries increased the fines and demerit points over the holiday period, Thailand DECREASED them.

The only way to educate folk is through the wallet and/or having to use shoe leather for a few months.

'Govt pleased with road safety measures over holiday period ... New Year road toll rises to 340 on sixth day' Are we still ahead of 2014?

'Gen Prayut explained that there were also more vehicles on the roads during the New Year holidays.' More than when? Other days? Or previous NYs?'

Self satisfaction easily achieved ! yesterday deaths were up on the previous year mmmm

Yeah general Prajuth, you say that to the 300 families who have lost their dears.

They get patted on the back for doing their jobs for seven days! Seven out of 365 days. This goes beyond unbelievable.

If he is happy with these statistics he must be ecstatic about Thailands ranking in the world's corruption index. 85th in the world and going down !

So how many road-deaths would disappoint the Government ?

If he is happy with these statistics he must be ecstatic about Thailands ranking in the world's corruption index. 85th in the world and going down !

They would rank a lot lower, but they passed a law forbidding any investigation into so many bank accounts.

And next year we will be talking to a man that crossed a egg with a banjo and got a chicken that plucked itself ! Also next year we will be even more pleased when even more people die than they did this year after another 'Road Safety' campaign.

Is there any other country in the world that is so often pleased with repeated failure ?

I did a personal survey of all my errant habits over the holidays and also find saisfaction in my

behavior. Regretably my wife, 2 neighbors, and 7 midget policemen, did not agree with my personal

assessment !

I can't wait until they start handing out cash bonuses to the BIB for a job well done.

"Great jobs guys. Only 80 more people killed on the roads than last year. Fantastic job keeping under 100!!! Cash bonus for all. Now, back to our 'cash cow' of busting motorcycle riders without helmets and drivers not wearing seat belts!"

Edited by connda

I fail to see why most of the posters attempt to decry the efforts of Uncle Too and the sterling job the BIB have done.

Bye the bye, the blemish from the frontal lobotomy is healing well and the soldiers outside my house say I do not have to go on anymore holidays.

"But but Thaksin...."

Jeez, you fanboys are so lacking in arguments.

Wait for the next 'evening speech' braodcast on all national TV channels..& think to yourself what percentage of Thai people see this and actually believe what is said...nearly all have no idea what's really happening in/to their country, & most simply do not worry because they're living day-to-day.

That's the problem with Enforcement - it only works where enforced.

Yes the check points catch the drunk drivers and non helmet wearers who are stupid enough to ride through a check point.

But if you want to make a difference you need to educate people, not just tell them what they cannot do.

Best way to make people do something is often to suggest they do not do it!
