Everyone worked hard to minimise road accidents yet by Day 5 the various categories of figures were worse than for the 7 days last year !

Self-congratulation is becoming another hallmark of the government. I await the reasons offered, if any, to explain away the increase in negative figures.

I remember Yingluck's did the same not to long ago.
"But but Thaksin...."

Jeez, you fanboys are so lacking in arguments.

Were did I wrote Thaksin?

Govt pleased with road safety measures over holiday period

Really? Wow, Amazing Thailand indeed. According to the Bangkok Post this morning, the number of accidents AND fatalities is UP over last year.

The government must have truely low standards.

Of course they do. whereas most countries increased the fines and demerit points over the holiday period, Thailand DECREASED them.

The only way to educate folk is through the wallet and/or having to use shoe leather for a few months.

While I agree with all the sentiments expressed on this thread, it is not true that they decreased fines over the holiday.

A country without any meaniful law is the problem.

People can run the red lights, drive down the wrong side of the carriageway, break every law in the book for 258 days a year.

How on earth does any Government expect them to toe the line for the other 7 days ??????? by not drinking and driveing, which as seen as the norm here all year round.

Yes, self promotion and delusion, however what would have been the outcome without these "super" measures what were introduced.

Really what is lacking is the participation of the people, they are allowed to do what ever they want all year and accept it as normal, allowable and mai bpen rai.

The solution lies in very tough enforcement 24/7/365, impounding cars, jail, meaningful fines, stamping our the tea-money mentality, excusing Hi-So's and the "don't you know who I am".

We can live in hope, I guess nothing is likely to change in the short to long term.

Quite right. I am of the same opinion in that if applying the laws of probability there could well have been a percentage of those 'drink & driving' drivers causing accidents too. This would mean an even higher toll. In addition, If the PM is pleased with this out come then perhaps he should consider similar measures at other times too. To do it every day would probably have a higher impact on available funds to pay for a lot more traffic police and I don't think the tax rate is high enough here to supply the necessary.

How can he be pleased with the death and accident on the rise. More deaths and more injuries tell me that if i were PM i would not be pleased at all.

Well, it was widely reported that fines over the holiday period had been reduced. There was a news item in this forum about it.
