webfact
Thailand-Cambodia rail link to be completed by DecemberBY LARRY BANKSBANGKOK: -- The construction of a restored rail link between neighbouring countries Thailand and Cambodia to improve transport in the Mekong region is set to be completed by December 2016, the local media reported on Monday. The State Railway of Thailand is also improving another 6 kilometres of tracks from Aranyaprathet station in Sa Kaeo province to the Thai-Combodian border at Ban Khlong Luek, according to a report in the Bangkok Post. The rail connection between Aranyaprathet and Sisophon (provincial capital of Banteay Meanchey) was stopped in the 1970s mainly due to internal conflicts in Cambodia.Sim Sam Arth, the police chief at the immigration checkpoint, said his office would move to new facilities next week, as they already have been built.Full story: http://ethailand.com/breaking-news/thailand-cambodia-rail-link-to-be-completed-by-december/1174/-- eThailand 2016-01-
Ricardo
Wasn't this previously announced, as being due to be completed, by the end of 2015 ? https://12go.asia/en/post/1280/thailand-cambodia-rebuild-aranyaprathet-railway-link
BigBadGeordie
So it's going to take 12 months to lay 6 kilometres of track? So pray tell how long it will take to develop the mega projects linking the north/south and east/west? lonewolf99
Actually it is 3 feet 3 and 3/8 of an inch. It far from usefull on a high speed rail link. It OK for rumbling stock cars.... I think this press announcement is a saving face effort becase the Cambodians have actually finished their side of the rail link. through to Vietnam. LoS is going to be the big missing link in the chain down to Singapore. Also, there is a large section of Southern Thailand that is full of "insurgents" that would love to disrupt rail links..... As for Hi Speed links by the Japs and Big Bro China.... its all blow and no show.
soc
So when the 2 links are finished(ha, when?), we'll be able to travel by rail from Singapore to London? Singers-Bangkok Bangkok-Phnom Penh, Phnom Penh-Saigon, Saigon-Hanoi-Southern China, Southern China-Northern China-Manchuria, Manchuria-Moscow-Western Europe, Western Europe-via Chunnel-London. and if anyone is interested, London-Wick in Northern Scotland.
