Picture courtesy of Bangkok Post The principal of Ban Hin Kob school in Chumphon, Jeeraporn Sanguansuchart, has been transferred following backlash over her decision to make students hoist the national flag during a storm. The transfer will facilitate a thorough investigation into her actions, which have been criticised as inappropriate. The incident occurred on the first day of the new school term when Ms. Jeeraporn reportedly insisted that three students raise the flag despite severe weather conditions. It was only due to the school janitor's intervention that the students were minimally shielded by umbrellas. Following this event, Director Saksit Raethong of Secondary Educational Service Area 2 met with approximately 100 concerned parents. The parents expressed dissatisfaction with Ms. Jeeraporn's leadership, citing past complaints of "over-punishing" students, and demanded her removal. In response, Ms. Jeeraporn visited the homes of the three affected students to apologise, offering a gift basket and 1,000 baht to each family as a gesture of goodwill. However, the families returned these offerings, leaving them with Mr. Saksit, indicating a refusal to accept her apology. A panel has been established to investigate the matter further, ensuring that the issue is addressed comprehensively. While Ms. Jeeraporn has been reassigned to work at the Secondary Educational Service Area 2 office, this move aims to ensure that the investigation proceeds without any hindrance or bias. This incident highlights the importance of balancing adherence to protocol with the safety and well-being of students, prompting broader discussions about leadership and decision-making in educational environments.
