THAILAND -- His Majesty the King today (Wednesday) presented bags of relief materials to victims from the collapse of a construction crane undertaking construction of a bridge across the Chao Phraya river in Ayutthaya province.

The relief materials were presented to Governor Prayoon Rattanaseni by the Ratprachanokroh Foundation on behalf of the King to be distributed to the four victims whose houses were damaged.

The huge crane used in the construction of the bridge which connects Tambon Sampao Lom with Tambon Koh Rien across the Chao Phraya river in Phra Nakhon Sri-ayutthaya district of Ayutthaya collapsed after its supporting base accidentally slipped.

The crane crushed onto four houses near the construction site which were damaged.

The contractor has offered to help compensate for the damaged houses but the house owners said they wanted to move out because they felt unsafe after the accident.

The district police superintendent, Pol Col Poomsit Nawang, said no charges have been lodged against the contractor pending an investigationto find out the actual cause of the crane collapse.

I was just saying this on another thread. Whoever is doing Thai PBS's translation work needs to be fired.
