3 Chinese students in US to be jailed for torturing peer

LOS ANGELES: -- Three Chinese students accused of kidnapping and torturing a peer in LA, California are set to be sentenced to 6 to 13 years in prison after they pleaded guilty and reached an agreement with local prosecutors on Tuesday.

They would be expelled from the US as well when serving out their jail term, judges said. And a formal court decision of the punishment is expected to be announced early next month.

The three defendants, all of whom were born in 1996, were accused of abducting and torturing a fellow female Chinese student in March in Rowland Heights, an affluent, unincorporated community in Los Angeles County with an almost 60 per cent Asian population.

Couldn't buy their way out in the US apparently.

How justice is done.

Parent tried to bribe a witness? Hope the victim files a civil suit for damages.

Off-topic post removed.

How did they torture the victim?

Did they chew with their mouths wide open, talk loudly and spit on the floor while blocking every pathway?

"More controversy ensued from the case when the father of one of the defendants tried to pay off a witness, hoping to "settle" the case. He was later arrested for bribery of a witness."

He ain't in China anymore...

What? Torturing a fellow Chinese student is not allowed in the US? We thought it was a universal privilege of Chinese people...

What about foreign nationals from other Asian countries...is that OK? We regularly mistreat our domestic help with impunity...

I don't think that's an accepted or very common practice in the US. In the Gulf Middle East, definitely.

Here is the background story and it is not even remotely funny.

It started as an ordinary spat among high school girls, sparked by an unpaid restaurant bill.

At an ice cream parlor in Rowland Heights, the dispute took a dark turn.

Three girls ganged up on Yiran "Camellia" Liu, forcing her to kneel and use her hands to wipe cigarette butts and ice cream smears off the floor, according to Liu's court testimony.

More teenagers joined the fray. Liu testified that they took her to a nearby park, where they stripped her naked, kicked her with high-heeled shoes, slapped her hundreds of times and burned her nipples with cigarettes.

They cut off her hair and made her eat it, she testified. Someone snapped cellphone photos of her.

A girl named Helen said to the others, "Just slow it down and don't hit her so hard, and we can do it a longer stretch of time," Liu testified at a preliminary hearing.

She definitely needs to choose a different group to befriend in the future.
